Profiting from Prophesy

1 Cor 14:3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.

1 Cor 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
There are personal and corporate outflows of prophesy. God speaks to His people individually for personal growth, comfort, strength and encouragement. He does the same for His people as a nation, the church, and every group we can think of. The sole purpose of the this is to raise awareness, stair desire and hunger to seek God's counsel for our lives. We cannot explain it in simpler terms than the passages above.

As a continuation of my earlier post on 'All things are yours,' this article aims to open our eyes to one of the many things that belong to us. There are limitless possibilities and opportunities available to us. What exactly is the 'prophetic?' And how exactly can we profit from it?

Everything has a name. When we ask, it is called prayer. When we receive it is called answer (actually the entire process is called prayer). In between all that, there is interaction; there is an exchange and a communion. The prophetic is the medium with which God communicates with the intention of being heard.

Many have come to treat prayer like the post office. "Drop your petitions and hope that they get delivered." But that is far from being true. God speaks and we can hear! This is the entire message of the prophetic - that we serve a living God and He speaks. We serve a loving God, He loves. We serve a benevolent God, he gives. I personally think there is a wide-spread deception aimed at mitigating the importance, potency and indispensable role of prayer.

The prophetic essentially makes our relationship with God come alive. We can get directions for life's most important decision; we can get answers to our most pressing questions; we can get comfort for our most devastating experiences; we can gain understanding to the occurrences in our lives; even most frequently learn more about how much we are loved. Even this is enough profit.

Being prophetic doesn't mean you'll be weird (or maybe you will). It simply means one will live life with purpose, direction, and knowledge. It isn't something meant for the holiest and the monks exclusively. As a matter of fact, we who live in the  normal world need it more because with the almost infinite options available to us, we must choose right; with the many things calling for our attention we need to be constantly reminded of God's love above all else.

Call unto to me, and I will answer you and show (reveal, explain, impress on your  heart) you great and mighty things; things that you have never heard of. Jer 33:3
